Sandwich Central School

Dear SCS Families:

Another Sandwich Fair week has come and gone, and the trees are reminding us that winter is around the corner. With the extreme temperature change between morning recess and afternoon recess, it is best that students come to school dressed in layers. Please help guide your child’s wardrobe choices so that they can maintain comfort both in and out of school. We appreciate your help.

I want to offer my sincere thanks to all of the volunteers who helped us succeed last weekend. Despite the weather, we still managed to raise over five thousand dollars for the students at SCS. In addition to parking cars, we were also the recipient of the Best in Show award for our “Best Part of Me” poetry exhibit. This project was the result of a collaboration between SCS and ILHS. A group of AP English students traveled to SCS to guide our student’s writing and take all of the amazing photographs. In addition, all of the digital formatting and printing was completed by parent volunteer Marcy Greene. Thanks Marcy!!!!

Our all school overnight trip is coming up quickly. We are still collecting permission slips, but will need final confirmation by this Monday, October 16. I have received several inquiries about food on the trip. Our first meal on Thursday, November 2 will be a bagged lunch brought from home (or purchased at school). Thursday’s dinner will be pizza and salad provided by a local eatery. The EcoTarium will provide a late evening snack and Friday morning’s breakfast. The latter is described as a “continental breakfast”. On the way back to NH we will provide all students and chaperones with a snack and choice of sandwich. Mrs. Booty and her team of volunteers (yet to be named) are planning to offer sunbutter and jelly, turkey and cheese, and hummus and cheese as options. We are hopeful that this plan will keep the large group comfortable and happy. As we get closer, a detailed itinerary and information packet will be sent home. In the meantime feel free to call with any further questions.

Next Friday, October 20, is Student, Parent, Teacher Conference day. Hopefully, you have already received a signup sheet and returned it to your child’s homeroom teacher. If not, I am confident that there is still space available. There is no school for children that day, and the teachers will be working from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm. These conferences are a critical component of your child’s overall experience at SCS, and I firmly believe that open-communication between home and school is the key to student success. It takes a village...

As always, thank you for the support you provide to your child and our school community. If I don’t see you on Conference Day, I will look forward to seeing you at the Halloween Parade on Tuesday, October 31. Enjoy the foliage!
