Sandwich Central School

Sandwich Central School will encourage and empower its children to achieve personal excellence and develop an appreciation for lifelong learning.

Dear Parents and Friends,

What a great week here at SCS!  How can we thank you for the wonderful celebration of teachers that you provided?  A mostly rainy week was filled with metaphorical sunshine as the staff was honored and recognized by parents and students for the great work that they do.
I am always impressed by the level of planning and preparation your children’s teachers put into their instruction.  Teachers meet to plan cross classroom activities such as book buddies in the Primary and Middle Multiage; plays in the Middle and Upper Multiage; math with the Upper Multiage and Grade 6; and reading between the Primary Multiage and Grade 6.  Teachers commonly make a plan for a period of weeks that coincides with the normal breaks of the school year.  This plan is revised at least every week and sometimes every day, to take advantage of learning opportunities as well as other needs that arise.

They are constantly juggling competing priorities and needs, crafting a scope and sequence of learning activities.  Teachers routinely express frustration with the amount of time they have to accomplish what needs to be done each day, each week, each month, and each school year.  They guard zealously their instructional time with their students, and take great pride in helping every child reach his or her full potential.
I am proud and thankful to be associated with such a great group of professionals here at Sandwich Central School.  We recognize that our ability to help children meet their potential is only possible with the incredible support given to us by students, parents, and the community at large

Sincerely,

John Hansen
