Dear SCS Families:

Where does the time go? My hope is that as you read this, you will be under
a shady tree, at the water, or enjoying some well prepared BBQ. The
2018-2019 school year is quickly approaching, and I am eagerly looking
forward to full classrooms and a busy playground. Mrs. Adriance, and Mr.
Read have been busy preparing the school for the return of students. We are
so fortunate to have these two professionals caring for our school in the
summer months. If you see them, give them a high five!

Our school enrollment is on the rise and as of today, we are expecting
approximately seventy-five (75) students at Sandwich Central School. As I
detailed in my June letter, our school size makes us susceptible to
“bubbles” as larger groups move through the grades. Currently, that group
is Middle Multiage (2-3) and is comprised of twenty-six (26) students. At a
recent work session with the SCS Faculty, the decision to split this group
into two multiage “homerooms” was finalized. Mrs. Read and Ms. Busnach will
be responsible for the instruction of these two classes. I appreciate
everyone’s patience and I am glad we could make this decision before the
start of the school year.

I am excited that the strong majority of the SCS faculty will be returning
for the 2018-2019 school year. I want to welcome one more time, Mr. Stephen
Watson. Mr. Watson is joining us as the new Upper Multiage teacher. He is a
twenty four year veteran educator and is looking forward to the challenges
of his new teaching position.

The first day of school is *Tuesday, August 28, 2018*. Students may arrive
at SCS as early as *7:35 am*. *The instructional school day will start
promptly at 7:55 am*. Kindergarten pick-up will remain at *12:05 pm* and
all remaining students will be dismissed at *2:35 pm*. Please make sure to
confirm bus stops by calling our contracted bus company, First Student, at

I understand that this is a busy time of year for all families and that can
be challenging for all ages. Please know that the SCS Faculty and I are
dedicated to making this transition as smooth as possible for you and your
child. As always, I truly appreciate the effort you put into your child’s
success and look forward to a productive school/home partnership. Please
enjoy the remaining days of summer and don’t hesitate to reach out with
questions or concerns.
